First of all keep in mind, if you were on an IV in the hospital, it’s possible you won’t lose much if any weight at all when you give birth, this is usually just weight that comes from retaining water and will go away with urination and perspiration after a couple of weeks. But you’re likely more interested in finding out about losing pregnancy weight after this water weight is gone. So here are some simple tips to get you started!

  • Drink a lot of water, more than your average 8 cups per day. This will keep you hydrated and water has no calories so you won’t gain weight from it but you’ll stay healthy.
  • Eat lean meats such as chicken and beef as lean as you can find it.
  • Keep healthy snacks around, not only will this be good for you but as your child will get older, they’ll come to enjoy the healthy snacks as well and will get them on a good plan!
  • Eat whole grain products instead of ‘white’ versions they are lower in calories.
  • Stay away from the fast foods if you can, if you can’t get salads.
  • Breastfeed your child, this uses up your fat stores and will help you lose weight!!!
  • As soon as you can, start light exercise. Having a newborn can be pretty hectic, but with some exercise you’ll find yourself with more energy and better able to deal.
